Global Buisness Project Info Session
Hosted by The GW-CIBER
The GWSB Graduate Studies Office and the GW Center for International Business Education & Research (GW-CIBER) are pleased to offer of a graduate level spring 2010 course called the Global Business Project (GBP). This three credit course, which was developed by a consortium of Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs), is designed to give students the opportunity to increase their global business and language competencies through guided hands-on business experiences in global markets. In this course, students are placed into 4-person teams with students from other GBP Consortium Schools. Each team will work virtually as a team for seven weeks in the United States prior to an intensive two week consulting project abroad. The destination countries for the spring 2010 course are Brazil, China, Japan, Poland, and Russia. Please note that the Global Business Project course may be taken in place of the required International Residency class for first year GMBA students.
Who is eligible?
Any GW graduate level student can apply for the program. Please be aware that language proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Polish, and Russian will be a factor in selection. Those without language proficiency may still apply but it is expected that you will have acquired at least a basic level knowledge of the language by the time of travel (i.e. through an on or off-campus language class, or through self-directed study such as Rosetta Stone). Students in their final semester of school are permitted to take the course, provided that the credits are not needed for graduation (since final completion of the course takes place after spring graduation).
Costs of Program:
In order to participate, students pay a fee of $2,750, which includes accommodations and meals for kick-off weekends in Washington, DC in March and in the capital city of the destination country in May. Additionally, students must pay for their roundtrip airfare to the destination country. The companies that will be hosting the GBP teams will cover all in-country travel, accommodations and meals. The GW-CIBER will pay the course tuition for all GW students that are accepted into the class.
Application Process:
To apply for the course, please visit the GBP website at http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/KI/ciber/GBP/ and click on How to Apply. Because selection into the program will be competitive, we recommend that you be as detailed as possible when filling out the application. The application deadline is November 15th and acceptance decisions will be made by early-mid December.
