Panel Moderator:

Professor Neil Cohen

Neil G. Cohen has an MBA from the University of Michigan, a DBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia, and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).

On the finance faculty at GWU since 1979, Professor Cohen specializes in an active style of teaching using the case method, where students learn-by-doing as they evaluate real financial problems and make recommendations for action. He uses this pedagogy in programs throughout the School: BBA, MBA, Executive MBA, and Master’s of Science in Finance, as well as in short courses for managers and executives.

Professor Cohen wrote one of the first books combining computerized spreadsheets and financial analysis. This book was translated into Hungarian and published by the Hungarian-American Enterprise Fund. He was the impresario and editor for a casebook “Obstacles to Trade, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness” about businesses in Albania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Montenegro, guiding local experts who assembled data and interviewed managers. His manuscript “Personal Financial Advising: Concepts and Cases” is the basis of an academic course designed to train professional personal financial advisors.

Professor Cohen is the author, co-author, or supervising advisor of case studies in the fields of corporate finance, investments and portfolio management, and personal finance. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Case Research Journal. Many of his collaborations were written about companies in Central and Eastern Europe.

He was a visiting professor at the Central European University Business School in Budapest, where he first taught in 1994 as a Fulbright professor. Professor Cohen taught corporate finance and investment banking to MBA students and lead management development programs in business finance and investments for companies such as ABB Prague, Coca-Cola Moscow, Creditanstaldt, Kraft Jacobs Suchard, MOL (Hungarian Oil & Gas Company), and US Steel Slovakia.

Corporate Finance: Mr. Christopher Garza, Purchasing Manager, AT&T (NYSE: T)

Chris is currently the Manager of Purchasing for AT&T Government Solutions. His past experience includes financial analysis, project management and other procurement roles working with various Government Prime Contractors and Agencies of the U.S. Government. Chris Garza has a B.A. from George Mason University and is a Professional Member of the Institute of Supply Management and the National Contract Management Agency.

Government Finance: Ms. Gisele Holden, MBA, CPA, iTRAK Project Manager and Senior Staff Associate, National Science Foundation

Ms. Gisele D. Holden currently serves as Project Manager and Senior Staff Associate to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the National Science Foundation. In her position she manages a multimillion dollar initiative to modernize the Foundation’s financial management and property systems.

Ms. Holden’s 22 year career in financial management spans both the federal and private sectors. As a financial professional for a Corporate 500 company Ms. Holden served as a financial consultant and provided financial advice to 20 cost centers in the Washington DC area. Prior to this position, she worked as an auditor for one of the “Big 4” accounting firms where she performed financial statement audits for real estate, retail, manufacturing industries, non-profit and federal organizations.

Since entering the federal sector in 1993, Ms. Holden has served in a number of increasingly responsible management positions in several agencies as a manager and executive responsible for modernizing and implementing financial management systems; implementing policy and procedures on internal controls and financial management; managing financial operations and reengineering business processes.

Ms. Holden is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated with B.S degree in Accounting and a Master in Business Administration and a Master Certificate in Project Management.

Fund Management/Institutional Sales: Mr. Wayne E. Perry, VP, Regional Sales Manager, OppenheimerFunds

Wayne began his career in the Pharmaceutical and Medical supply industry, as a Sales Representative with Henry Schein, Inc. He was promoted to Sales Supervisor, then to Asst. Sales Manager charged with creating the west coast sales team based out of Reno, NV, after two years he was promoted to Sales Manager of the East coast team and moved back to Long Island, NY.

Wayne Perry joined OppenheimerFunds in 2004 as Regional Sales Specialist for High Net Worth Group specializing in Separate Accounts and joined the Retail Mutual Fund team in January 2007.

Prior to joining OppenheimerFunds, Wayne worked for JPMorgan Chase and at The Dreyfus Corporation’s Managed Asset Group as a Separate Account Specialist. Wayne has over 20 years of sales and sales management experience with over 11 years in the investment and separate accounts arena. Wayne holds a B.B.A. from Hofstra University, MBA from The George Washington University, he also is a Certified Investment Management Analyst and a Chartered Retirement Plan Counselor.

Investment Banking: Mr. Jeremy F. Rohen, Managing Director, Seale & Associates Inc.

Jeremy Rohen is a managing director with more than 10 years experience focused on mergers and acquisitions, general corporate advisory, and strategy consulting.

Mr. Rohen has advised on divestitures, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, recapitalizations, valuations, due diligence, strategic alternatives assessments, and various corporate finance matters. Prior to joining Seale & Associates, Mr. Rohen was a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He was also a financial analyst for the U.S. Surface Transportation Board.

Mr. Rohen is involved with various civic and charitable organizations. He is on the board of directors of the G Street Education Foundation and is a member of the Economic Club of Washington.

Mr. Rohen received a B.S. in Finance and an M.S. in Taxation from George Washington University.

Personal Banking/Wealth Management: Mr. Val Volkau, AVP, Premier Relationship Manager, HSBC Premier USA (NYSE: HBC)

Val Volkau is an alumnus of The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where he graduated cum laude and earned special honors. During his undergraduate years, some of his internships included a research assistant position for Professor Elias G Carayannis of GWU School of Business and an associate position for the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims. Immediately after graduation, Val was selected to participate in the highly competitive Retail Management Trainee program at HSBC. Upon successfully graduating from the program, Val was positioned as a Personal Banker at the Dupont Office. He excelled in sales and was well received amongst all his clients. Due to his consistent successful performance, he was soon promoted to the Premier Relationship Manager role. Presently, he is a Premier Relationship Manager at the Georgetown office. He volunteers with Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area and is a member of GLOBE, Citizens Association of Georgetown, Georgetown BID and the Georgetown Business Association.

Wealth Management: Mr. Andrew Woolridge, Associate Director, Convergent Wealth Advisors

As a leader in the Advisor Group, Drew is the point of contact for many client relationships. Drew is responsible for handling any financial needs his clients may have including asset allocation, investment selection, strategy implementation, real estate finance and performance evaluation.

Prior to joining the company in May of 2006, Drew was the Investment Officer for County National Bank’s Trust and Asset Management Division and President/Director for CNB Investment Corporation. In addition to investment research and portfolio management, Drew worked on the development and implementation of investment strategies for client’s assets.

Drew holds both a Bachelor of Science and MBA, with a concentration in Finance, from the Pennsylvania State University and is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). Drew also holds the Investment Management Consultants Association’s Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation, graduating from the program administered by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

While at Penn State pursuing his MBA, Drew was one of the key participants in the launch of the Nittany Lion Fund, LLC. The Nittany Lion Fund is alumni invested, student run, $4.5 mm investment fund. Unlike most of the nearly 200 other student-managed investment funds around the country, the Nittany Lion Fund did not come from a university endowment. Rather, 69 individual investors have each placed at least $25,000 — and as much as $250,000 — under the control of the student fund managers.

Panel Moderator:

Professor Erik Winslow

Erik Winslow is currently Professor of Behavioral Sciences of the Management Department at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. His education includes the Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from The Pennsylvania State University, the Master of Science (Psychology) from Case Western Reserve University. At Case Western Reserve University, he worked closely with Frederick I. Herzberg as an assistant professor of psychology and staff associate for Psychological Research Services and the Center for Industrial Mental Health.

Professor Winslow's current interests include research and writing on entrepreneurship and succession and survival of family enterprises, organizational climate formation, organizational change, management/leadership in technical and professional environments, stimulating creative management strategies and the development of motivational environments. He has published over 30 articles and chapters, and has edited numerous professional publications in the above areas.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the School of Government and Business Administration outstanding service award, The International Council for Small Business award for dedicated service, the International Association for Systems Theory Award for excellence, The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship award for Model Entrepreneurship program, elected as a Fellow of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and The Centre for Development and Population Activities Outstanding Service Award.

He has served as the Chairman of the Management Science Department (presently known as the Management Department at The George Washington University) for 28 of the 33 years of its existence. He is also the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence (CFEE) at The George Washington University. Dr. Winslow has been a Director of Policy, Planning and Organizational Development for the Department of Revenue for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Winslow has consulted with government agencies including the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Veteran's Administration, Federal Emergency Management Administration, AID, Interior, and the Small Business Administration. Private Corporate consulting includes Computer Science Corporation, EDS, US Air Force, and Westinghouse Corporation, Smelkinson-Sysco Corporation, GE, Ernst and Young, AT&T, Bell Atlantic, The Software Productivity Corporation, IBM, multiple small and medium businesses, Arnold and Porter LLP, Beers and Cutler, Washington Trade Association, Men's Wear Retailers Association, Air Line Pilots Association, NRC and National Geographic. He has been a visiting professor at Beijing University PRC and a guest lecturer at Hebrew University and the University of Tel Aviv in Israel.

Mr. Michael Batlogg, Senior Consultant, Booz Allen Hamilton

Michael joined the civil sector portion of the Economic and Business Analysis (EBA) capability area of Booz Allen Hamilton in 2009. In general, the EBA team provides management and strategy consulting solutions to help clients make economic choices and resourcetradeoffs. EBA offers its clients structured methodologies and proven analytics that deliver the decision-ready information clients need to: make sound investment and procurement choices; justify funding, manage budgets, and manage costs; and control programs, analyze performance, ensure compliance, and mitigate risks.

In the summer of 2009 Michael returned from a year-long professional fellowship in Germany (Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship) which included working in the German Federal Economics Ministry and Deutsche Bank AG. Prior to this, in Washington D.C., he worked in a variety of public and private sector organizations. At the U.S. Treasury, the World Bank, and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, he worked on policy issues relating to international foreign direct investments.
Previously, he investigated monopolistic behavior in corporations while in the antitrust economics practice at Bates White LLC, an economics consulting firm. In the summer before graduate school, Michael spent the summer working on international FDI strategy at ERNE Fittings GmbH in Austria. He has also helped promote American exports for the U.S. Department of Commerce at the U.S. Embassy in Switzerland.

Michael graduated in 2008 from GWSB with an MBA in international business and from the Elliott School of International Affairs with an MA in international trade and investment policy. He attended Rutgers University where he received his degrees in economics as well as IT & informatics.

Ms. Sarah Byrne, Manager, Federal Human Capital Consulting Practice, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Sarah Byrne is a Manager with Deloitte Consulting's Federal Human Capital practice. Ms. Byrne combines her knowledge of public sector operations, strategic change and communications to develop pragmatic, workable solutions to client problems. Ms. Byrne's experience includes developing and implementing communications and change management strategies to support large scale technical and programmatic transitions, organizational analysis and redesign, strategic planning, facilitation and coaching, competency modeling, skills and training needs assessments, job classification and analysis, workforce planning, and performance management. Ms. Byrne earned an M.B.A. from the George Washington University, is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and holds an active Top Secret clearance.

Kate Driscoll, Senior Consultant, Human Capital Practice, IBM Global Services

Catherine H. Driscoll (Kate) has more than ten years of experience in project management, stakeholder analysis, change management and strategic implementation. As a senior consultant at IBM focusing on Workforce Transformation Strategy, Kate is currently partnering with the US Air Force to develop an enterprise-wide competency model to effectively and efficiently match home and in-theater human capital requirements with skilled Airmen.

Prior to joining IBM, Kate served as Senior Manager of the Residential Concrete Program at the National Association of Home Builders. She was hired by the leaders of the concrete industry to develop and implement strategic efforts to increase market share of residential concrete products. Previously, Kate reorganized Amnesty International national training program, and she began her career at the Human Rights Campaign where she was responsible for the oversight of a 2.5 million dollar Development Project.

Kate graduated from John Carroll University in 2000, and in 2009 obtained her M.B.A with a concentration in International Business and Strategic Management at The George Washington University. She joined IBM's Global Business Services Human Capital Management practice in May 2009. Although she has lived in Washington D.C. for the past ten years, her heart belongs to her hometown city and the beloved Steelers of Pittsburgh, PA.

Pam Lilak, Manager, Washington Federal Practice, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC)

Pam graduated in May 2007 from the AMBA program at GW. Her MBA studies focused on international business; specifically implementing business strategies in emerging markets. With an interest in Corporate Responsibility, Pam contributes her years of consulting to help groups and business owners solve challenging problems. Her volunteer efforts make an impact in the world to advance education and jobs for those not as fortunate to have the chances we do.
Pam entered into management consulting directly from undergraduate studies at Ohio State. She was with Accenture for almost ten years and worked on projects in the US, Europe, and Canada. Next was Booz Allen, where she joined the Organization and Strategy team to help financial services clients adapt to changes as a result of new technology solutions. Now she is with PricewaterhouseCoopers and works in the sustainability group within WFP. She is currently helping GSA to define its performance measures to report on Recovery Act funding for green initiatives.

Nicole Pajoohi, Senior Associate, DRT Strategies

Professor Fernando Robles

Dr. Robles is Professor of International Marketing and International Affairs at the School of Business at the George Washington University. Dr. Robles's research and consulting experience is in Global Marketing and Regional Marketing Strategies. His book, Winning Strategies for the New Latin Markets (2002), has been categorized as pioneering work in the field of international business. His articles have appeared in many academic and professional journals, including The Journal of International Business Studies, International Marketing Review, Industrial Marketing Management, The Journal of Euromarketing, The International Executive, The Journal of Direct Marketing, Latin American Business Review and Thunderbird International Business Review. He has also made many contributions to chapters in books in Global and International Marketing and serves in the editorial board of Management Decision.

Dr. Robles has given seminars to companies such as Ericsson Radio Systems, AT&T, and participated in executive management programs in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru. Before joining George Washington University, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico. He is currently a visiting professor in ITAM of Mexico and the Kochin International School of Business in India.

Dr. Robles was president of the Business Association of Latin American Studies from 1989-1990 and served as its Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Education Committee of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington, the Advisory Council of the International Society for Marketing and Development, the American Marketing Association, the Academy of International Business, and the Business Association for Latin American Studies.

A native of Peru, Dr. Robles received a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at the National University of Engineering and a Masters degree from the Graduate School of Business Administration (ESAN) in Lima, Peru. He has an MBA degree from Georgia State University and a Ph.D. degree in Business Administration from the Pennsylvania State University.

Larry Cristini, Associate Director, Corporate Advisory Services, Eurasia Group

Larry Cristini is an associate director of Corporate Advisory Services. In addition to working on business development initiatives, he advises corporate clients on political risk management. Larry received a BA in political science (magna cum laude) from Providence College, and an MBA with a concentration in international business from The George Washington University.

Prior to joining Eurasia Group, Larry was a senior consultant at Marsh, Inc., in the firm's reputational risk & crisis management practice. He was responsible for the development and delivery of Marsh's services in enterprise risk and crisis management planning, training, and exercising for corporate clients. In addition, he trained senior leadership teams on crisis management principles, decision-making, and strategy development. He also served on a 24/7 response team that provided real-time crisis support to corporations facing severe incidents. Larry has conducted dozens of corporate exercises with executive teams focusing on events such as industrial accidents, terrorism, environmental disasters, product recalls, civil unrest, supply-chain disruptions, and natural disasters.

Ntoh O Etta, Director of Strategic Projects, NetworkSolutions LLC

Ntoh currently serves as the Director Strategic Projects at NetworkSolutions LLC, a Herndon Virginia based leader in Internet technology Solutions. Ntoh has been with NetworkSolutions for almost 4 years where he has held several different positions with the firm. He most recently served as the Director of Ecommerce Business Development leading evolution of the Ecommerce platform and led the creation of a new business operating office in Buenos Aires, Argentina (NetworkSolutions Center for Innovative technology (NCIT)). Ntoh has also served as the product development manager for Network Solutions leading the entry into the digital marketing and design services business.

Prior to NetworkSolutions, Ntoh served as the Global Trade Services Manager for JP Morgan Chase where he led the development and multinational implementation of the global trade export solutions. He has also held several positions with other consulting and technology organizations including the creation of a Start-up consulting services firm. S. Kent Gryskiewicz, Principle Consultant, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Commercial Business Services, Next Generation Energy Solutions

Mr. Gryskiewicz graduated from The George Washington University in 2004 (Cum Laude) with BA in Sociology & Political Science.
He has professional experience in both national and international politics and Government policy (UK House of Commons & The US Senate) prior to joining Science Applications International Corporation. Mr. Gryskiewicz has been at SAIC for 5 years and worked exclusively in the Managing Consulting domain. He has worked with clients in the following sectors: the Oil & Gas industry, US Federal Government, US Defense sectors, and the Intelligence Community. He is a member of SAIC's Commercial Business Services team. Mr. Gryskiewicz currently serves as the Program Delivery Manager for Royal Dutch Shell's Digital Oilfield Collaborative Technology global delivery team. Sarah Guroff, Operations Director, Asia Region, Chemonics International

A 2009 graduate of GWU's PMBA program, Sarah Guroff is Operations Director and Regional Financial Analyst for the Asia Region at Chemonics International, where she has worked since 2000. During her tenure with the company, Sarah has had the opportunity to support the firm's portfolio of multilateral-funded public sector reform projects and a variety of policy, private sector development and natural resources management programs in Central and South America.

More recently she served as Projects Manager for the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Natural Resources Information Clearinghouse project and as Operations Manager for the Agency's Central America & Dominican Republic Quality Coffee Program based in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Prior to joining Chemonics, Sarah worked briefly for a not-for-profit trade association and even more briefly as a research associate with the World Bank's PREM Poverty Group. Sarah holds a BA in History and Spanish from Swarthmore College and an MSc in Leisure and Environments from Wageningen University in The Netherlands.

James Meffen, Associate, Structured Finance, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC)

James Meffen has served as an Associate in the Structured Finance department of OPIC since 2008. In this capacity he has had experience structuring complex emerging market project financings in the power and infrastructure sectors as well as completing multiple $100+ million senior unsecured facilities in Central America and Eurasia. Bill Fox, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal, specializes in turnaround and business performance improvement efforts for consumer products, retail, global manufacturing and financial services companies. Prior to that, he was Chairman and CEO of Arcade Marketing Inc., a global marketing services, printing and FDA-certified contract manufacturer, where he led efforts to achieve substantial growth in revenue, profitability and market share as well as achieve Procter & Gamble Pinnacle, ISO and FDA certifications. He also served as President of Strategic and Corporate Development for Revlon Worldwide, and Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of Revlon Inc., a global leader in marketing personal care products, where he led the company through a major reorganization. Earlier, he was Senior Vice President and Global Treasurer of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc. Mr. Fox began his career with the New York-based audit practice of Coopers & Lybrand, where, in addition to serving in the audit function, he conducted acquisition reviews, taught continuing education and was a financial and insurance industry specialist.

Mr. Fox is presently a director serving on the boards of Neuberger Berman Group and various Lehman affiliates and has served on the boards of Nephros, Inc. (Chairman), Sielox, Inc., MMCo., Inc., Register.com (Cayman), Arcade Marketing, Inc. (Chairman), Hain Food Group (Vice Chairman), Loehmann's Holdings, Inc. (Chairman), Cosmetic Centers Inc. Mr. Holliday became chair of the board on January 1, 1999. He retired from DuPont as CEO on January 1, 2009. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and he is past chairman of: the Business Roundtable's Task Force for Environment, Technology and Economy; the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); The Business Council; and the Society of Chemical Industry - American Section. Mr. Holliday serves on the board of directors of Deere & Co., CH2MHILL, ClimateWorks Foundation and is chair emeritus of the board of directors of Catalyst. In addition, he is chairman of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and is a founding member of the International Business Council. He co-authored "Walking the Talk", a book which details the business case for sustainable development and corporate responsibility.
