FAQs

What sets GW's WEMBA apart from similar programs?

The GW WEMBA is completed in sixteen months-shorter than many other executive MBA programs. Our unique location, just a few blocks away from the White House, enables us to draw adjunct faculty who put theory to practice. These practitioners come from the World Bank, IMF, State Department, and many more government departments and private and nonprofit organizations. Our career center features a large staff of both core staff members and industry-specific career consultants. Professional coaching sessions and a business challenge are highlights of the WEMBA program, as are the two international residencies and two consulting projects here in DC. These experiences make WEMBA a practical degree that ensures a strong ROI.

I have nine years of work experience. Do I have to take the GMAT/GRE?

The GMAT/GRE are an important component of the admissions process and help the committee understand your strengths and quantitative skills. High test scores demonstrate that a student can thrive in a challenging business curriculum. Thus, the admissions committee does not generally waive the GMAT/GRE requirement.

If I apply before June 30, will I receive a decision sooner?

We review applications as they are received. The admissions committee and program director will contact you after your preliminary application materials have been received, and will process your application. Applicants who fulfill all components of the application before the deadline will receive a timely admission decision.

Am I required to stay overnight on Fridays, even if I live in the DC metro area?

All students are required to stay overnight on Fridays. Accommodations are provided at a local hotel and are covered by the cost of the program. We believe most teams will appreciate the chance to work together onsite, and staying on campus the night between classes provides the networking opportunities that our students are looking for and builds lifetime professional and personal bonds.

Are transfer credits accepted?

Due to the cohort format of the program, transfer credits are not accepted. No credits will be waived from the program.

Can I visit a class?

The best way to learn whether GW is a good fit is to visit campus. We invite you to schedule an informational interview with an admissions/program director to discuss the program. You may also wish to participate in our Experience WEMBA program so you can observe firsthand the excellent teaching and unique approach our faculty provide. The visit includes an informational interview with an admissions/program director, lunch with current students, and observation of a class. Such a visit gives you the opportunity to meet students -busy professionals like you- who chose GW. To schedule a visit, please contact Emily Kliever, MBA Admissions Coordinator, at ekliever@gwu.edu or (202) 994-1212.
