GWSB Students Attend Undergraduate Business School Leadership Conference
On January 31-February 2, 2008, juniors Betsy Smith and Michael Zytnick represented GWSB at the annual Undergraduate Business School Leadership Conference hosted by Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in Atlanta, Georgia. The 2008 Undergraduate Business School Leadership Conference (UBSLC) was an extraordinary and fantastic event focused on the theme of "Leading with Innovation." During the two-and-a-half jam packed days in Atlanta, student leaders from top business schools throughout the world gathered to partake in case competitions, networking events, and group discussions with top business executives. The conference was organized with a "work hard/play hard" attitude, as attendees spent their early mornings and late afternoons engaged in workshops and roundtable discussion sessions, while evening activities took on a more relaxed tone. The group case competition was a true focal point of the conference, as students were asked by the Chairman and CEO of Macy's East to tackle a product assortment dilemma facing the firm. With only two hours to review internal company documents related to the case, ten student groups each presented a recommendation to the company's executive team who flew in from New York for the event. Michael Zytnick’s team placed second in the case competition. Students who attended the conference met with business leaders from some of the most innovative and revered business organizations. A sampling of the companies represented at the conference included: Lehman Brothers, Macy's, Procter and Gamble, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, A.T. Kearney, and URS Corporation. The UBSLC was a phenomenal event where students from undergraduate business schools throughout the world joined forces to collaborate and discuss the lasting impact of innovation. Attention: Seniors preparing for job search and Juniors seeking spring or summer Internships The newest technology at the Career Center is INTERVIEWSTREAM, a computerized interview training program. It can be accessed at the Career Center in Duques 560 or at home (using a webcam). How does it work? A recruiter (on tape) pitches interview questions at you and the webcam records your responses. You can repeat your response several times or proceed to another question. A self-evaluation allows you to rate your performance on non-verbal communication (such as eye contact, voice, posture and etiquette) as well as verbal communication (such as impressive introduction, clarity of expression, use of proper grammar, and ability to talk about skills.) Find out more about this on GWorkSB.com It is especially recommended for Seniors who are now preparing for job interviews and Juniors seeking Spring or Summer Internships. If you have any questions on resume writing, internships, jobs and other career oriented questions, please contact Sylvan von Burg at 202-994-3692. On Campus Recruiting Update
